I have been wandering the world since I was old enough to walk. My parents used to take me on grand tours of Europe by car and when I flew the nest I literally started flying to far flung corners of the globe. I have backpacked through SE Asia, overlanded through Africa and South America, and hiked in the footsteps of great European explorers and adventurers.
For many years I was paid to travel but this meant sticking to a pre-planned itinerary and being followed by a dozen or more paying tourists. Now I travel for my own pleasure and mostly on my own. This means I have to interact with the local people, learning more about their cultures.
I love Africa and have ventured through most of East and Southern Africa as well as to Senegal, Gambia and the Cape Verde Islands. You can read about my experiences while working in Safari Lodges in Zambia, Malawi and Uganda at African Nomad.
I spent 4 years exploring Europe in a Motorhome, travelling through France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy and Greece, as well as a few detours through Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic. I also became quite proficient at using ferries while crossing the channel as well as voyaging to the islands of Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily. More recently I journeyed through South America for 8 months. Unfortunately the situation in Venezuela meant that we had to bypass that country but there was more than enough to see in all of the others, from icy glaciers to tropical beaches and amazing waterfalls. The scenery was dramatic, the people were friendly and the food was rich and varied in each region. You can read more about my South American adventures at South America Nomad.
Then I headed back to Europe to visit the cities which would have been difficult in a motorhome. I spent one week in each one fully exploring and getting a feel for each city.
